ILIANA TREVINO ('21)

Research Assistant: iParent

I graduated from Baylor with a major in Psychology with minors in French and Educational Psychology. I enjoyed working at Dr. Ryan-Pettes' lab because it gave me an opportunity to learn about the at-risk youth population and the community of Waco. Outside the lab, I also volunteered at The Arc and REACH Equine therapy. Other areas of interest to me are mental health and developmental disabilities. After graduation, I am continuing my education in the M.A. Applied Behavioral Analysis program at Columbia University.

CAITLIN BULLARD ('20)

Research Assistant: MRP Ethics

I graduated from Baylor with a B.S. in Psychology. My interest in psychology grew from my love of people and my desire to understand why they act the way they do. One of the reasons I joined Dr. Ryan's lab was to gain experience in the field by working with a population in Waco beyond the Baylor community. After graduation, I am completing my Clinical Psychology, Ph.D. program at the University of Oklahoma.

JULIANE NGUYEN ('20)

Research Assistant: Descriptive Study of Youth in Detention

I graduated from Baylor in May 2020 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Child and Family Studies. What interested me about Dr. Ryan-Pettes' lab was being able to work with adolescent populations. I loved having the hands-on experience collecting the data, learning about research design and procedures, and working within the juvenile detention system. In my free time, I was singing in the Baylor Concert Choir as well as serving at St. Peter's Catholic Student Center. Gaining this experience has been so valuable for a future career in clinical psychology. After graduation, I will be pursuing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Divine Mercy University.

NICOLE HONNEN ('20)

Research Assistant: MRP Ethics

I graduated from Baylor with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Child and Family Studies. I joined Dr. Ryan-Pettes’ lab to gain exposure to clinical research investigating externalizing disorders in children and adolescents. I am particularly interested in the role that parent-child interaction serves in the development of child and adolescent psychopathology. I was also a research assistant in the University of Denver’s PROTECT lab investigating the risk and resilience factors within the developmental pathway of families with histories of maltreatment and other trauma. After graduation, I am pursuing a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Denver.

MADISON PAPPOUS (’20)

Research Assistant: MiSkills and Descriptive Study of Youth in Detention

I graduated from Baylor in May 2020 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Child and Family Studies. I was drawn to working in Dr. Ryan-Pettes’ lab because it provides a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience with the adolescent population. Working in this lab allowed me to gain experience in many aspects of the research process including recruitment of participants, administration of surveys, conducting telephone interviews, data collection and analysis, and was even able to present some of these findings at a conference. After graduation I will be attending California Lutheran University as a Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student.

PRECIOUS MATHIS ('19)

Research Assistant: Acceptability and Willingness to Pay for Contingency Management, MRP Ethics

I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Baylor in December of 2019. In the lab, I created Facebook campaigns, managed a Facebook page for recruitment, designed Qualtrics surveys, modified measures, managed data, reached out to local and national substance use clinics, conducted quantitative analyses, and contributed to the Acceptability and Willingness manuscript. Dr. Ryan’s focus on delivery of interventions to adolescents and study of substance use patterns in this population drew me to her work. This lab permitted the opportunity to refine my research skills and grow as an individual. In the future, I hope to continue working on brief interventions for adolescents and studying the use of social media as a tool for recruitment. Currently, I am pursing my M.A. in Clinical Psychology and Ph.D. in Health Psychology at the University of Texas at El Paso.

ERIC BURNS ('19)

Research Assistant: APOYO

I am a psychology major from Angleton, Texas. I’ve always been fascinated on what motivates people to act the way they do and why. Dr. Ryan’s focus on at risk adolescents with substance usage intrigued me to better understand what factors prompted someone to become dependent on a substance and for me to contemplate my future career decisions. Not only does working in her lab provide me valuable insight into research and how to be a better research assistant, but it’s prompted me to think less restricted and more creative and understanding. After graduation I’m going to Royal Holloway in England to pursue my masters in clinical psychology. In my free time, I enjoy baking and if I can find the time, relaxing and reading a book or playing a video game.

REVATHI KADURU ('19)

Research Assistant: Mental Health and Outcome Among Juveniles in Detention

I graduated from Baylor with a B.A. in neuroscience. One thing that interests me about the lab is being able to work with the Waco community. I have always been interested in the brain and human behavior, and I have enjoyed working in Dr. Ryan's lab. After graduation, I am at Stanford University in the Neurology department as a life science researcher.

EMILY ADAMS ('18)

Research Assistant: MiSkills

I graduated from Baylor in December 2018 with a B.A. in Psychology. What drew me to Dr. Ryan’s lab was the opportunity to work with adolescents, which is the population I wanted to work with post-graduation! I’m grateful that I will get to do so now that I have the experience I gained through working in the lab.  Working in Dr. Ryan's lab has provided me with great training in both qualitative and quantitative research, as well as academic writing. Gaining experience in working with adolescents and their parents has been invaluable to me as I pursue a career in school psychology. This fall, I will be attending Texas Woman's University in Denton as a doctoral student in their School Psychology program.
